Kate Humble’s television career has spanned almost three decades, presenting programmes including: Springwatch, Escape to the Farm and Countryfile. As a huge dog lover, it was a natural partnership for Kate to support our annual calming campaign to help settle fireworks and noise anxiety with herbal support.
Kate has first-hand experience of animal anxiety with her first dog Badger who was scared of everything… from fireworks to pigeons! Her current dogs, Welsh Sheepdog Teg and scruffy Terrier mix Mouse, also show signs of noise anxiety, and Kate knows the best way to support an anxious animal is to be as calm and normal around them as possible, but most importantly plan ahead.
Kate says: “When we know there are fireworks coming, we either try and be somewhere else out of earshot, or we keep the dogs with us, play music, and try and distract them. Every dog is different. Badger [my previous dog] liked to be held, but Mouse retreats into her corner, so we build a little camp around her with a blanket and a chair and that seems to help.”
Kate is also a firm believer is holistic care, with Mouse taking supplements for her skin allergies, and Kate’s previous dog using an everyday joint supplement alongside chiropractic treatment which worked wonders for mobility.
